Summer Highlights

I have been terrible at keeping up with posting what we have done this summer, so I am now going to try and recap it all in one post! It's a long one so be prepared!

We will start with May.
In the middle of May was the BYU Rugby National Championship game
I had to be there to see it, so here we are after BYU became the National Champions!

This is a picture of Laura and I. We were student athletic trainers for the
rugby team together.

Memorial Day weekend I went up to eastern Idaho with my brother Mark and his
wife Natalie. We stayed with my sister and her family.
It was a fun, rainy weekend. Here are some pictures of our adventure in
the ice caves!

My nephew Jerek sliding down the ice slide

My brother in law Doug was so nice to take this picture for
us. Unfortunately he is now not in any of them.

This is the ceiling of the ice caves. It was amazing. When you
looked up close you could see all the tiny crystals!

On our way back to Heidi and Doug's house we stopped to
do some shooting.
Here I am looking like a gangsta shooting the hand gun

Here I am trying out the rifle.

It was a really fun weekend I just wish Mike could have been there too.

Moving on to June....

Our next adventure turned out to be a big one. We headed up to Boise at the
beginning of June to go to my nephew Lincoln's baby blessing. It was a fun weekend with my family that ended with a bang! (literally)

This is us as we start out on our journey home. We are so happy!

About 30 minutes into the drive we hit stopped traffic on the freeway.....
This is not good especially with our car's reputation of overheating.

...5 minutes later this is our car...

We stopped and let it cool down and then continued our journey. It stayed near the "H" the whole time and when we got to Burley, Idaho we stopped again. We let it cool down for about an hour and began our journey again. It was still by the "H" the whole time. We had the heat on full blast the entire drive. It was a hot one! About 20 miles before the Idaho Utah border came the bang. Our engine started stuttering and there was smoke coming out from the hood. We quickly pulled over and let it cool down. We saw a sign that said a rest area was in one mile. We decided to try and make it there. Unfortunately the car wouldn't start.  So to speed up the story a couple hours later we were in tow truck on our way to Tremonton.

Mike's grandparents were so kind and they came from Logan to pick us up.
A month later we got our car back with a different engine in it.  The head gasket had cracked
and it ended up being better to replace the whole engine. It was a rough month but we now have a car
that works much better!

We also made a trip to Arizona in June for Mike's mom's 50th birthday! All of the kids surprised her by showing up in Arizona to bring her breakfast in bed! It was a really fun weekend but unfortunately I do not have any photos of it :(

Next is July.

We had a fun busy July! We helped Mike's Grandma Albretsen can a lot of apricots which
was a new fun experience for me. We also were busy with a lot of family get togethers.

Our big trip for July was our week trip to California. Our Grandparents Checketts got all the
family tickets to Disneyland for a day for Christmas last year. We are scheduled to go on July 24th.
They reserved some condos in San Clemente where we all stayed. We spent the week going to the beach, visiting the San Diego temple, and of course a day at Disneyland!
Here are a few pictures of that!

This is a picture of Emily, Ryan, Me, Gable, Rachel, and Kyle on Space mountain!

Mike and I by the teacups!

Another one of us at Disneyland.

It was a wonderful week that ended with us stopping in Las Vegas to visit Mark and Natalie.
It was the perfect ending to a great trip!

Last but not least is August!

We took our last big trip of the summer up to eastern Idaho to do some
Huckleberry picking!
My favorite jam is huckleberry raspberry jam and since you can't by huckleberries
we went to get them!

My nephews Justus and Jerek and Mike and I picking huckleberries.

Mike and I sitting down to work on a bush.

After picking.... Our hands were all red

The huckleberry picking crew!

After an all day event of picking we came out in total with 3/4 a gallon of
huckleberries! If any of you have seen huckleberries or picked them before, then you
know that is a great day!

I have also been spending some time using my new sewing machine I got for graduation.
this is a car seat cover I made for our upstairs neighbor who just had twins. I made matching ones that
go with her baby room colors.
I also made Mark and Natalie one for their coming baby boy!

It has been a great summer that has gone by so fast! I can hardly believe that Mike starts school on Monday! Thanks to everyone who made this summer so much fun. We really enjoyed all our time with family and friends! We hope you all enjoyed your summer as much as we enjoyed ours!

  1. Sounds like a great summer; glad you two got to do all of that traveling! I've never been in an ice cave nor shot a gun (nor picked huckleberries, been to Disneyland...) so you've given me some ideas for my "Life list". Good luck with school Michael, and thanks for updating Jana!
